Rola Chem Flow Meters can be disassembled and cleaned.
They have a much more “forgiving” gasket and are less expensive than the
other brands. They are available Top Mount, Side Mount and Vertical
Mount. Flow meters should be mounted on the return-line after the
filter. On a spa they should be mounted before the heater. Chlorinator
output should always be downstream from the flow meter as they don’t
last long with concentrated chlorine solution flowing through them.
Ideally you need about 36" of straight pipe with the flow meter mounted
in the middle in order to get an accurate reading,. None of the flow
meters seem to last more than a couple of years.
To calculate your flow take the GPM reading at the top of the little
“bead” that rises in the tube and multiply that by 60 minutes to get the
amount of water you are circulating in one hour. You are required to
have a 6 or 8 hour turnover in your pool so when you multiply by 6 or 8
that number should match or exceed the total gallons in your pool. Spas
are required to “turnover” every 30 minutes. |
