LIGHT FIXTURE
IDENTIFICATION
Pentair (American
Product) “Amerlite” and “Spa Bright”
are the
most common fixtures in this area. They are most easily identified by
the “square cut” pattern on the face ring. They have a thick spongy
cream-colored gasket. The older models had a chrome /brass face ring
that had small tabs and screws that secured the face ring to the
fixture. The new ones have a stainless steel face ring that has one bolt
that you tighten to snug the fixture together. When reassembling, be
sure to center lens and gasket in face ring and don’t over tighten the
bolt.

Sta-Rite
“Swimquip” light fixtures are smaller in diameter than the
“Amerlite” they fit into different size wall niches and are not
interchangeable. This fixture is easy to ID because it has a “notched”
light lens. The lens gasket has holes through it that use screws or nuts
to attach the lens and gasket to the rest of the fixture.
Although they are no longer installing these in new pools the fixtures
are still available with 25, 35, 50 or 100 FT cords. |

POOL TOOL -
LIGHT WEDGE
This is the best way to hold a light fixture into the pool wall niches
once the little metal tab that the retainer screw goes into has been
broken off.
The light fixture is made to catch at the bottom of the wall niches then
tilt upward until it is flush with the niches. The retainer screw is
supposed to screw into a little metal tab at the top of the niches.
These tabs can break off or the threaded hole can corrode if anything
other than a stainless steel or brass retainer screw is used.
The “light wedge” is an adjustable plastic wedge and stainless steel
screw that goes through the light ring. After the bottom of the fixture
catches on the niches bottom the fixture should be tilted up until the
fixture is flush with the wall and the wedge is inside the niches. As
the screw is tightened the wedge tightens against the side of the niches
and fixture “wedging” it in. Sound complicated? Of course it is easier
to install these with the water drained down past the fixture. Be sure
not to allow the lights to come on until after they are back under
water. It is also best to leave enough cord wound up on the fixture so
that it can be placed on the deck for future light bulb changing.
The light wedge is designed to be universal giving you the option of
changing the angle of the wedge to fit every fixture and niches. |

LIGHT RING
ADAPTOR
This expensive heavy brass ring has three adjustable mounting screws
that wedge in onto the outside of the original wall niches giving you a
new bottom catch and retainer screw hole. When installing, don’t tighten
the 3 inside screws too much as they will bend the ring making it
unusable. Sometimes these inside screws have to be shortened to allow
for fixture clearance.
Please note: as
with any type of mount (including the original niche) if someone wants
to vandalize the fixture they can all be “pried” out of the wall without
much trouble. |
