In 1999 the Texas Department of Health
really shook up the swimming pool business by issuing a very
comprehensive new set of standards. The old rules date back over 30
years and the new rules include many changes in required equipment,
chemical levels and record keeping. A complete set of these guidelines
(more than 50 pages) can be downloaded from their website at
http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/default.htm
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/he/he0075700toc.html
City health departments can add to these new standards, require more
than the standards and can speed up the time allotted to complete your
changes. They are not allowed to disregard any of these new state
standards.
As with any new set of rules changes have and will continue to be made.
This section should help you to come into compliance.
DECK MARKERS:
The new regulations require that you have the words “No Diving” in 4"
letters and a international no diving “Logo” (at least 4" in diameter)
every 25' around your pool deck. Depth markers are required every 2 feet
of change around your pool deck.
The best way to accomplish this is to use “no skid” ceramic tiles inlaid
in your deck or coping. This is the most permanent solution. |
